Growing Higher with the Advent Message
Our aim, our objectives, and the words we chant at every gathering
Our Aim
The aim of the Association is to unite all alumni of ASF MOUAU under a cohesive and influential umbrella, fostering mutual affection, assistance and interconnectedness.
That sentence is taken from Article II of our Constitution, and it carries more weight than it appears to. It commits us to three things: that no member of this fellowship should be invisible to the rest, that the strength of the body should be available to the individual, and that what we hold in common should outlast the years we spent on campus.
Our Objectives
The Constitution sets out six objectives, and every programme this Association runs is answerable to one of them.
- To serve as a beacon of light to the world.
- To facilitate collaboration and foster a culture of mutual support characterised by peace, love and unity among members.
- To advocate for and safeguard the collective interests of the Association's members, aiding and supporting during times of need.
- To encourage the academic development of members of ASF MOUAU.
- To encourage and promote the spiritual development of ASF MOUAU.
- To engage in business activities created to generate profit or financial gain for the work of the Association.
How the Objectives Become Work
Objectives are easy to write and harder to keep. Ours are tied to standing structures: the Welfare department answers to the third objective, the Scholarship Foundation and the Fellowship Support Liaison to the fourth and fifth, the Career Growth department and the Academy to professional development, and the Ventures department to the sixth. Each department publishes a plan of work, and each reports to the general house.
Our Motto
“Growing Higher with the Advent Message”
The motto is drawn from Matthew 24:14 — that the gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations. It is chanted at every official gathering and event of the Association. It is a statement about direction: that growth in career, in learning and in influence is not an end in itself, but a means of carrying a message further than we could carry it alone.
