We Were a Fellowship Before We Were a Network
The Alumni Association of Adventist Students' Fellowship, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike
Every member of this Association shares one beginning. Somewhere on the campus of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in a fellowship hall, a Sabbath School class, a choir rehearsal or a late study group, we found a family that held us through the university years. We prayed together, sat examinations together, and left Umudike carrying something we did not want to put down.
The Alumni Association of Adventist Students' Fellowship — AAASF — is what we built so that we would not have to put it down. It is the collective body of everyone who passed through the Adventist Students' Fellowship at MOUAU, wherever in the world they now live and work.
What We Are
We are a professional association and a spiritual family, and we do not treat those as separate things. The same body that arranges a project management academy also raises a bereavement contribution for a member who has lost a parent. The same body that runs a scholarship for indigent undergraduates also sends delegates to a member's wedding. Our members are engineers, doctors, teachers, farmers, civil servants, entrepreneurs and pastors, in Nigeria and across the diaspora, and the Association exists to keep them useful to one another.
What We Do
We keep the alumni body connected — through the Homecoming every three years, quarterly general meetings, and a communication network that reaches members at home and abroad.
We build careers — through the AAASF Academy, the Mentorship programme, and the work of the Career Growth department.
We give back to the Fellowship — through the Scholarship Foundation, which supports indigent Adventist undergraduates at MOUAU, and through direct support to ASF MOUAU.
We stand with our members — through the Welfare department, at weddings, at bereavements, at dedications, and in times of difficulty.
We are building financial independence — through Ventures, so that the Association's work rests on more than dues and goodwill.
How We Are Governed
AAASF is governed by a written Constitution, ratified by the general membership, and administered by an Executive Committee of elected officers serving three-year tenures. Every officer is accountable to the general house. Every naira is reported. The Constitution is published on this site in full, and any member may read it.
Our Foundation
We are guided by the principles and philosophies of the Seventh-day Adventist Church on education, and by the conviction that our professional lives and our faith belong together. Our motto is Growing Higher with the Advent Message, taken from Matthew 24:14.
