Somebody Is One School Fee Away From Dropping Out
The Scholarship Foundation of the Alumni Association of Adventist Students' Fellowship (SFAAASF)
Many members of this Association can name the semester when it nearly ended. The fees were not there, the deadline was, and something — a relative, a church member, an unexpected kindness — made the difference. The Scholarship Foundation exists so that for an Adventist student at MOUAU today, that something is us.
What the Foundation Is
SFAAASF was conceived at an expanded Executive Committee meeting on 10 February 2024 and formally established at the General Meeting of July 2024. It is governed by its own Regulations and Bylaws, which sit as an addendum to the Association's Constitution.
Its Purpose
- To assist indigent Adventist students who demonstrate both spiritual and academic excellence.
- To foster love and charity within the AAASF community.
- To provide a platform to express gratitude for God's blessings by aiding those in need.
- To encourage hard work and excellence among Adventist undergraduates at MOUAU.
- To promote active participation of students in the activities of ASF MOUAU.
How It Is Run
The Foundation is overseen by the Scholarship Administrative Committee (SAC), appointed by the Executive Committee. SAC members must be registered members of the Association, at least ten years from graduation, with a known source of livelihood and a good reputation both within the Association and in wider society. At least half of them, including the Chairman and Secretary, must reside in Nigeria.
Beneficiaries are chosen by a Selection Committee comprising the SAC together with the President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, Fellowship Support Liaison Officer, Career Growth Coordinator and Diaspora Liaison Officer, and external stakeholders where the Executive Committee approves. Every application is scored against a published criterion with a threshold score, and selection is on merit without bias.
Accountability
All donations and disbursements pass through the Association's bank account or a dedicated Foundation account. Donations are held in trust by the account signatories and may be used only for the logistics of the selection process and for disbursement to beneficiaries. Approved disbursements go directly to the personal accounts of successful candidates. A biannual financial report and an annual activity report are presented to the Executive Committee. Applicants' personal information is held in confidence and used solely for the scholarship.
Consecration
Beneficiaries are consecrated at a special service held at a date set by the SAC. The Foundation is not only a transfer of money; it is the Association standing behind a student in the sight of the Fellowship.
Impact
No award cycle has closed yet. Once the first cycle closes, this section will show the number of beneficiaries, total disbursed, and courses of study supported — and, only with a beneficiary's written consent, their own words about what it meant.
